Q. |
Why did you chose to attend Drexel University? |
|
I chose Drexel because I was impressed by the co-op program, biomedical engineering curriculum, and diverse faculty. I was also offered a scholarship.
|
Q. |
What do you like most about the Biomedical Engineering program? |
|
Drexel’s Biomedical Engineering program is very balanced. Not only do students receive a balanced foundation in BOTH biological and engineering topics through the curriculum, but practical experience is also gained through co-op. In addition, there are several opportunities to get involved with research as an undergraduate or graduate student. Given that Drexel offers five areas of concentration, there is surely a project to interest each student.

Q. |
If you have completed a cooperative education experience, where did you work and what were your job duties? |
| |
I completed all three of my cooperative education experiences at Exponent, Inc. Exponent is an engineering consulting firm that specialized in the analysis of failures and accidents. The Philadelphia branch specializes in the failure analysis of medical devices, including orthopedic devices. I worked with a team of surgeons, clinicians, and engineers to characterize modes of failure within retrieved spine, hip, knee, and elbow implants. The results of these studies were used by orthopedic manufacturers to guide future device designs and to support regulatory submissions to the FDA. I was also given the opportunity to present some of these results at a number of local, national, and international research conferences.
