Dear Prospective Student,

If you are still deciding about the college education that best fits your educational objectives, a team of Biomedical Engineering faculty is standing by to answer questions as you make one of the most important decisions in your life. If you wish to contact us, please see our e-mail addresses list below.

Hoping that it will be helpful in your decision, below please find a list of relevant facts about our undergraduate Biomedical Engineering program at Drexel University.

Excellent Student Body

Biomedical Engineering majors at Drexel distinguish themselves by the best admissions standards and continued success throughout their tenure at Drexel. They win many national and university awards and honors for their research, service and academic achievements. Our incoming classes represent the population ratio, i.e., 50 percent women and 50 percent men. Our students are the pride and joy of our faculty and staff.

Exciting Biomedical Engineering Curriculum and Cooperative Education

Our School offers one of the most unique and comprehensive ABET accredited biomedical engineering programs in the country. Our curriculum offers a healthy mixture of classroom and real world experiences which alternate courses with gainful employment in industry, health care institutions and medical laboratories including the opportunity to work with our excellent faculty in our world-class laboratories on tissue engineering, bionanotechnology, biosensors and bioimaging, neuroengineering, bioinformatics... these emerging research directions in biomedical engineering anchor our curriculum and sets it apart from our peers.

Undergraduate Research and Design Opportunities

The innovations made by biomedical engineers constitute the basis of the fast growing bio-enterprise. Students who are interested in research are welcome in our laboratories to join our teams working on breakthrough research in tissue engineering, bionanotechnology, biosensors and bioimaging, neuroengineering, bioinformatics. Our program also provides design experiences starting in the freshmen year and culminating into a capstone senior design projects. Many designs made by our students have 'intellectual property' value and form the basis of companies that they form, with support from our Entrepreneurship program.

Individualized and Hands-on Advising

Our faculty is dedicated to the success of our students. All undergraduate biomedical engineering students receive academic and professional advice and guidance throughout their education at Drexel and hopefully beyond. Our faculty and staff provide critical support for our student's transition to professional biomedical engineer.

Biomedical Engineering as a Pre-Medical Major

Biomedical Engineering is the most natural course leading to successful enrollment in medical, dental or veterinary schools. It equips our students with engineering skills which best prepare our students to rewarding and productive careers in technology-driven and research based modern medicine. Recent statistics indicate that biomedical engineering majors outpace other disciplines in admission to medical schools.

Accelerated and Integrated Programs

Qualified Biomedical Engineering students may elect to apply to our combined and accelerated BS/MS program, BS/PhD program, BS/MD program in collaboration with our College of Medicine and BS/JD program in collaboration with our new College of Law. Biomedical engineering majors may also enroll in our Honors program which offers special curricular, service and social experiences for our best students.

The Philadelphia Region

Our region is ideal for studying biomedical engineering since it boasts one of the highest concentrations of medical universities and hospitals, biomedical device and systems companies, bio-pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and health systems industries. Our School takes advantage of this richness by forming academic alliances with regional research and development institutions and corporations. Our urban setting and our proximity to cultural centers in Philadelphia present a bonus for students who will grow not only academically, but also intellectually and socially during their college years.
