"Main Line Health named Elaine Thompson, an alumnus of Drexel's School of Biomed, as the new president of Lankenau Hospital on Friday, August 18, 2006."

She will start September 25, 2006. Lankenau's previous president, Gail Egan, left the health system in March after serving as president of the Wynnewood, PA, hospital since 2001.

Thompson is coming to Lankenau from the St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network in Bethlehem, PA, where she most recently served as executive vice president and chief operating officer. During her tenure at St. Luke's, Thompson oversaw an extensive renovation and expansion of the hospital's facilities. She also provided administrative leadership to the St. Luke's Regional Heart Center.

Before joining St. Luke's, Thompson spent eight years with the University of Pennsylvania Health System, where her responsibilities included directing physical and occupational therapy services, leading the UPHS trauma network, and serving as associate hospital director for medical support services.
Thompson has also operated her own sports medicine and physical therapy centers in New Jersey.
