The Ph.D. Qualifying Exam for the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science & Health Systems will be held on Monday, June 19 and Wednesday, June 21, 2006 beginning at 10:00 a.m. in CAT 061. Please plan to arrive no later than 9:40 a.m., as there is quite a bit of preparation and administration that needs to be finished beforehand. The Life Sciences portion (Monday for both Biomedical Engineering students and Biomedical Science students) will be "open book." The Mathematics portion of the exam, which will take place on Wednesday, will also be "open book." Please note that no more than two books and three pages of notes will be allowed in the exam each day. The time allocated for each portion of the exam will be a maximum of 3 hours. On each of these days, the exam will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will end at 1:00 a.m.

Students selecting the non-thesis option in their master's degree program will take a portion of the qualifying exam as a partial fulfillment of the MS degree requirements.

All first year graduate students enrolled in the Ph.D. program are required to sit for both portions of the exam. Exceptions to this must be approved prior to the exam following a formal petition by the student and his/her advisor. Please note that all students are required to file a plan of study by the end of the second term of study. Students must have an approved plan of study, before they will be allowed to register for the exam.

Students planning to take the exam must complete the application form and return it to Caryn Glaser by May 15, 2006 so that you are properly entered as a candidate for the exam. Since approval to participate in the exam requires your advisor's endorsement, please discuss this issue with your advisor prior to your registration. Approval forms are attached and will be available in the Main Office.

For students expecting to take the exam, copies of last year's exam are available in the BIOMED Office. Please see Lisa Williams if you would like a copy of the older exams. She can be reached at 215-895-2215, or via e-mail: ltw22@drexel.edu
