Lab Overview

The Laboratory, which is approx. 600 sq. ft., is provided for ultrasonic research in the field of piezoelectric ultrasound transducers, biomedical ultrasonics and ultrasound metrology. The laboratory has water, access to deionized water supply, work benches for electronic construction and testing, computer controlled scanning tanks, and a broad range of modern test equipment including high speed digitizers, ultrasound pulsers, function generators, HP Network Analyzers, and Tektronix digital oscilloscopes.

List of Available Major Equipment

The laboratory is equipped with Hewlett Packard Network Analyzer type HP 8751A for Time Gating Frequency Analysis calibration and an Avtech Nanoseconds Pulse Generator (AVL-2AH-C). In addition, there is also a dedicated Time Delay Spectrometry measurement set-up for transducer characterization and attenuation measurements which is fully controlled by a Pentium IV IBM/PC compatible computer. This set-up includes a Hewlett Packard 3585A spectrum analyzer and a water tank with a precision x-y-z positioning system. We also have a set of function generators, digital oscilloscopes and a 200 MHz Panametrics Pulser/Receiver.

There is distilled water supply equipment, experimental shock wave generator, High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) transducers and several calibrated miniature PVDF receivers together with standard pulse-echo imaging transducers. The available receivers include both wideband needle-type and membrane hydrophone probe developed for the shock wave measurements. Equipment for polarizing piezoelectric polymer transducer materials and for measuring piezoelectric activity is also available.
