Biomedical Entrepreneurship at Drexel

Dr. Robert J. Loring
Senior Entrepreneur in Residence
School of Biomedical Engineering, Science & Health Systems

Dr. Robert J. Loring graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA in 1984, receiving a Ph.D. from the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems. Dr. Loring commercialized his Ph.D. thesis and subsequently founded the Cardiometrix Corporation shortly after graduation. The company provided EKG analysis services to pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and private physicians nationwide. The company quickly became a multi-million dollar national provider of a broad range of health care services rendered through a national network over 21,000 health care providers. The company has successfully contracted with over 200 federal government agencies. Dr. Loring is an expert at contracting with the Federal Government for the provision of health care services.

In 1998, Dr. Loring returned to Drexel University and joined the faculty of several colleges, including the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems. Dr. Loring wrote a complete curriculum in entrepreneurial studies and wrote and published two original course texts. Dr. Loring has successfully taught classes on the modern business planning and entrepreneurial process for the School of Biomed, MBA, executive education, and undergraduate business students. Over 1,200 plus Drexel students have successfully completed this course.

Dr. Loring has recently affiliated himself virtually 100 percent with the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems and is the current Senior Entrepreneur in Residence at the School. In this capacity, Dr. Loring will continue to teach his entrepreneurship class to both graduate and undergraduate biomed students, and he will also serve as one of the School's main resources in assisting both faculty members and students with technology transfer to the commercial marketplace.
