Biomedical Entrepreneurship at Drexel

The School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems at Drexel University is committed to creating a culture of biomedical technology entrepreneurship within the School. This culture will evolve as a common thread connecting students, faculty, and staff. The School possesses a huge wealth of growing talent, which produces prodigious amounts of original biomedical research products. Our goal is to usher the transfer of as much of the promising biomedical research products as possible into the global commercial marketplace. We will do this by developing a proactive system for identifying the most commercially promising, new technologies, then actively pursuing their protection via the U.S. patenting process, followed by the transfer of these technologies into the marketplace.

We will foster these initiatives through a variety of means and resources, including a cadre of "Entrepreneurs in Residence" who will serve as facilitators to assist with all of the processes required for effective technology transfer. These individuals will have both scientific credentials and documented, successful start-up business experience to bring to the School.

We will also hold an annual Biomedical Entrepreneurship competition for our biomedical engineering students as a way of bringing to the surface any promising new ideas, concepts, and biomedical technologies they are developing.
