Biomedical Entrepreneurship at Drexel

Mihir Shah
Entrepreneur in Residence
School of Biomedical Engineering, Science & Health Systems

Mihir Shah is the Founder and CEO of UE LifeSciences Inc. (UELS), a medical device company focused to globally commercialize non-invasive early stage breast cancer detection solutions. With an effective 'Concept 2 Clinic' business model, in 2009, Mihir lead the transition of NoTouch BreastScan™ (IR based breast screening technology), from R&D to product design to clinical studies to CE approval to it's full scale commercial use in a UK based clinic; all within six months.

Mr. Shah has played a critical role in the commercialization and clinical validation study of the InfraScanner™ (a non-inavasive brain hematoma detection tool) and was interviewed by the BBC News Corp. while working at a government hospital in India. Mihir has made key contributions to the development and the then licensing of IQ™ and ZOE™ (non-invasive hematoma monitoring systems) both invented at Drexel University.

Mr. Shah is a Drexel alumni (Computer Engineering, Class of 2000) and the recipient of 2001 Business Plan Competition Award sponsored by the Laurence A. Baiada Center for Entrepreneurship in Technology at Drexel University. In spring and summer issues of 2004, Mihir was interviewed by Innovation Philadelphia in an article titled 'Making a Difference, and Money'; commenting on his experience and association with the Drexel Bio-Med team, Mihir annotates, "My grandfather always wanted me to be a doctor and save lives. I guess this is as close as I shall ever get to it!"
