About the School


Founded in 1961 (formerly the Biomedical Engineering and Science Institute) and reorganized in 1997 World renowned faculty with specialties in engineering, life sciences, and clinical applications Beneficiary of a major endowment that sponsors chair professorships and assistantships (Calhoun Endowment) 90 Drexel faculty (27 primary appointments in the School) 52 adjunct faculty from regional institutions and industry 100 full and part-time graduate students currently enrolled in graduate Biomedical Engineering  & Science programs Academic Alliance for Biomedical Engineering with Thomas Jefferson University  Whitaker Foundation grant to initiate new graduate programs in biomedical ultrasound and biomedical optics Joint bioinformatics initiative with Coriell Institute for Medical Research Located in the heart of Philadelphia, which boasts one of the highest concentrations of biomedical industries and health care institutions in the nation   Close working relationships with local universities, hospitals, and industry provide a broad range of research, co-op education, and career opportunities for students.
