"Harvard-MIT Biomedical Optics Summer Institute to be held at MIT and at the Massachusetts General Hospital."
Outstanding students with backgrounds in physics, engineering and computer science, chemistry, or biology are encouraged to inquire about the NSF/NIH-sponsored Biomedical Optics Summer Institute, to be held at MIT and at the Massachusetts General Hospital. The essential information is as follows:
- Format: Research experience in biomedical optics and classroom instruction.
- Eligibility: Junior, senior or first-year grad student in September, 2004.
- US citizen or permanent resident.
- Stipend: Approximately $300 per week. undergraduates; ~$500 per week graduate students.
- When: June 16, 2004 to August 13, 2004.
- Application Deadline: March 1, 2004.

The interdisciplinary nature of biomedical optics makes for the variety of backgrounds listed above. Of course, an interest in or experience with optics is especially helpful. Finally, the program offers a unique opportunity to see the application of biomedical optics in a hospital setting.
