The seminar will provide an overview of ethical principles that govern scientific conduct in research and publications, scientific misconduct and fraud, examples of scientific misconduct and special emphasis on stem cell research. Dr. Kansu is currently serving as the Chairman of the Department of the Basic Oncology and Director of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Unit at Hacettepe University. He is currently in Philadelphia for a lecture series at Thomas Jefferson University, his alma mater.

Biosketch:
Dr.Emin Kansu graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1970. He completed internal medicine residency and hematology clinical and research fellowship trainings at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, from 1971 to 1980. After his return to Turkey, Dr.Kansu joined the department of medicine and Institute of Oncology at the Hacettepe University, in Ankara-Turkey. Since then, he has been serving as the chairman of the Department of the Basic Oncology and director of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Unit. Dr.Kansu has been at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle (1999-2001) as a visiting professor and continued his research in stem cell transplantation, late effects of allogeneic transplantation and chronic graft-vs-host disease.

Dr.Kansu received Medicine and Science Merit Awards from the Hacettepe University, Eczacıbası Science Foundation, Sedat Simavi Foundation and Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Council . He was elected to the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 1995 ,and has been an active member of ASH, ISH, EHA,EBMT,CIBMTR, ASBMT, ISSCR, ISCT and ACP. He is an active member of the EBMT-Late Effects Working Party , CIBMTR –Late Effects, Acute and Chronic Leukemias Working Parties.

Dr.Kansu is also an editorial board member of the Hematology and International Journal of Hematology. He has been serving as the Vice-President of ISH-European and African Division. In 2005, he was appointed as an Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Hematology at Thomas Jefferson University Medical College, in Philadelphia.

Dr.Kansu published more than 175 scientific articles in the field of hematology , stem cell biology, erythropoietin, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, leukemias, good clinical practice and ethics in clinical research.
